Wandsworth Music delivers outstanding music education and performance opportunities to over 9,000 children each year. We provide inspiring pathways for young people to learn instruments, sing, perform in ensembles and choirs, collaborate with acclaimed professional musicians, and most importantly —develop a lifelong love of music.

We are always keen to hear from talented and inspiring music tutors and therapists who are interested in joining our community. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and successful candidates will be contacted and invited to interview. If you don’t hear from us, it may mean that we don’t have a current vacancy for your instrument but we may be in touch in the future.

Curriculum Music Teachers (Primary)

Pay: £33.20 – £39.90 p/h

We are particularly keen to hear from individuals with proven experience delivering whole-class curriculum music programmes in primary schools.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a strong understanding of the primary music curriculum
  • Demonstrate high levels of musicianship
  • Be confident using their singing voice in teaching
  • Have the enthusiasm and creativity to motivate, engage, and inspire children of all musical abilities and backgrounds
  • Maintain excellent professional standards, including strong timekeeping and communication skills
  • Be a collaborative and proactive team player who uses their initiative

Music Tutors

Pay: £27.40 – £37.85 p/h

We are looking for talented and inspiring music tutors to join our teaching panel and deliver lessons in schools and at the Wandsworth Music Academy. We welcome applications for all music tutors but are particularly keen to hear from tutors with specialisms in:

  • Strings – experience and willingness to teach whole-class programmes is essential
  • Trumpet
  • Woodwind – especially first-study clarinet and bassoon players

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

  • A high level of musicianship and performance ability
  • A passion for motivating and inspiring young people of all abilities and backgrounds
  • The flexibility to teach in a range of settings, including whole-class, small group, and one-to-one lessons
  • Excellent professionalism, including strong communication and time management skills
  • A collaborative and proactive approach to teamwork

Music Therapists

Wandsworth Music is looking for enthusiastic and experienced therapists to join our team. There are opportunities for therapists to join our growing team of therapists working in schools across the borough and the Saturday Clinic. Applications are considered on a rolling basis and successful candidates will be contacted and invited to interview

Therapist Rates of Pay (These are PAYE positions):

  • In School Day Rate: £241 per day
  • In School Half Day Rate: £138 per half day
  • Saturday Clinic / Ad Hoc Hourly Rate: £35.55 per hour

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have Prior experience working as a music therapist with children and young people
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the needs and issues facing children and young people with additional needs.
  • Demonstrate high levels of musicianship on a range of instruments
  • Have the flexibility to work in a range of settings, including groups and one-to-one therapy
  • Maintain excellent professional standards, including strong timekeeping and communication skills
  • Be a collaborative and proactive team player who uses their initiative
