WMA Christmas Concert

On Saturday 9 December we celebrated the end of the Autumn Term 2023 at the Wandsworth Music Academy, with a magical display of all that there is to offer! The children took to the stage in their various groups to show off their skills and musicianship and what a treat it was!

We had four fabulous djembe groups demonstrate their singing, drumming patterns, listening and watching with our wonderful djembe tutor Aboubacar; taking the stage to bring the cultures of Africa to the fore. Our Steel Pans groups danced as they played several arrangements of well-known Christmas tunes, with a Caribbean twist!

The concert started with a bang as the Philharmonic Orchestra gave a surprise performance of movements from the original score of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, which provided an invaluable opportunity for our Juniors to see where they are headed!

Two of our Jazz Ensembles stole the show, with confident solos from several of the children, a cool Stevie Wonder number from Jazz 2a ‘I can’t help it’ and a Las Vegas Tango from 2b.

Our beginner ensembles, percussion ensemble and sound start 2 recorders played beautifully, showcasing their ensemble skills!

Pop Bands AB/DC and newly named ‘Fire Serpents!’ brought rock and roll energy and flare with their versions of Deep Purple and Nirvana.
